FDA cleared means the FDA found the device substantially equivalent to one already on the market. It is a real regulatory review you can look up by its number, and it is not a promise of any particular fitness result. Affiliate link: we may earn a commission at no cost to you.
Yes, EMS trains glutes, and they are one of the groups that respond best to it. Build the session around four patterns, glute bridges, squats, lunges and static holds, keep every rep slow, and let the current supply the load. The Visionbody PowerSuit covers the seat and the back of the legs with dry electrodes, and each muscle group is raised on its own in the app, so the glutes get their own number instead of riding along with the arms.
Why glutes take to EMS so well
Glute training in a gym usually means load: hip thrusts, sled pushes, weighted step ups. That is the part most people skip at home, and it is why home glute work stalls.
EMS changes the input instead of the exercise. The suit carries 24 dry electrodes, no gel and no wetting, and the contraction comes from the current rather than the weight in your hands. Movements stay slow and simple, squats, lunges, rows and planks. The rear panel sits across the back and the glutes, a large flat area and good ground for electrode contact.
Kemmler and von Stengel are the main whole body EMS researchers, and the evidence is strongest in beginners and returners. Their studies typically run 20 minute sessions once or twice a week. EMS supplements training rather than replacing progressive resistance work.
Your glute dial will sit higher than your arms
Every muscle group starts at level 0 and gets raised individually. That is the point of per-muscle control, and it means a finished session looks lopsided on screen. Glutes and quads end up noticeably above the arms.
One of Visionbody's own app screens shows exactly that shape: glutes at 45 percent, upper back 38, chest 37, abs 29, front leg 22, biceps 21. If your numbers look like that, nothing is wrong.
Big muscles under thicker tissue need more current before the contraction reads as strong, and small arm muscles get uncomfortable early. So raise the glutes until the contraction is unmistakable but you can still move through a full bridge slowly and breathe normally, then keep biceps and triceps low enough that you stop noticing them.
A 20 minute session built around the glutes
20 minutes is the headline session length, and the Visionbody FAQ gives 20 to 25. The in-app warm up is mandatory and runs first. The app comes with the system and carries 8 advanced programs and 64 subprograms, so one route is to run a program you like and weight the glute channel above everything else. To steer it yourself, use the split below.
| Block | Roughly | Movement | Where the intensity goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warm up | In app, first | Follow the guided warm up | All groups from 0, raised gradually |
| 1 | 5 minutes | Glute bridges, slow, paused at the top | Glutes highest, hamstrings next, arms low |
| 2 | 5 minutes | Bodyweight squats, arms extended forward | Glutes and quads, core moderate |
| 3 | 5 minutes | Reverse or split lunges, alternating | Glutes highest, front leg moderate |
| 4 | 5 minutes | Holds: bridge hold, wall sit, forearm plank | Hold the settings, do not chase a bigger number |
That split is our suggestion, not an official Visionbody program. The two fixed rules stand: warm up first, every group starts at zero.
The four movements, and how to run them
Glute bridge. On your back, feet flat, heels close. Drive through the heels, lift the hips, hold the top two or three seconds, lower slowly. The cleanest glute position in the session, because the quads cannot take over the way they do in a squat.
Squat. Bodyweight only, arms out in front for balance. Sit back rather than down, descend slowly, stand up without snapping the knees straight.
Lunge. Reverse or split stance, alternating sides. Step back, drop the back knee under control, stand through the front heel. A short range done well beats a long stride you cannot control.
Holds. Bridge hold, wall sit, forearm plank. Nothing moves, so the only variables are time and breathing.
Across all four, one repetition should take several seconds. Rushing reps is a habit carried over from unassisted training, and here it makes the session worse, not harder.
How often, and how hard
Train two to three times a week with at least 48 hours between sessions. The Personal System is capped at 120 minutes of EMS training per week, a ceiling and not a target. Visionbody publishes a heart rate guideline of 180 minus your age, so treat that as your upper edge during the working blocks.
You need no special clothing, just a thin seamless layer under the suit with no padding and no underwire. No rack, no dumbbells, no gym, so the session fits in a bedroom. You can see the current Visionbody configurations here.
What the suit has to do for this to work
Per-muscle control is what the whole approach rests on. The Visionbody runs 24 dry electrodes across 12 channels, driven by a wireless PowerBox over Bluetooth. The LP-E10 battery gives roughly 6 hours per charge and takes USB-C, which is voltage agnostic worldwide, so travel needs a plug adapter and nothing else.
The My Visionbody App runs on iOS and Android, works back to iOS 12.4, and comes with the system, along with the laundry net you will need for washing. There is no subscription and no membership, and nothing recurs after you buy.
On regulatory status: Visionbody is FDA cleared under 510(k) number K222386, granted 2023-02-24 to Vb Technologies AG. Clearance means the FDA found the device substantially equivalent to a legally marketed device. It is not the same as FDA "approval", and it is not proof that any particular fitness result follows. The system is designed and manufactured in Germany, for adults 18 and over.
What a glute focused EMS setup costs
Name the market, because there is no single global price. In the US the single kit (one suit, one PowerBox) is $1,890, down from a $2,490 list price, the duo is $2,390 and the double is $3,490. In Europe the single is EUR 1.790, down from EUR 2.490, the duo is EUR 2.290 on the EU store and EUR 2.390 on the DACH store, and the double is EUR 3.490. Our code ROUTINES50 takes $50 off. If it will not apply, remember that Visionbody applies seasonal pricing automatically and carts generally accept one code at a time, so a promo already on the cart can block a second.
US buyers have a deposit option with no credit check: $890 today, $1,000 charged to the same card when the order ships, $1,890 total. That is a payment schedule, not credit. No equivalent installment plan exists on the EU or DACH stores, so European and UK buyers pay in full.
| System | Electrodes | Channels | Subscription | Published price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Visionbody PowerSuit | 24 dry | 12 | No subscription | $1,890 US single (list $2,490); EUR 1.790 EU single |
| Katalyst | 26 | Mandatory $35 to $49 per month | $2,999 | |
| TitanBody | 20 dry electrode zones | 10 | No subscription | $1,895 solo against a $2,495 regular price |
| SQAI | No subscription | $2,795 |
Katalyst is iOS only. Blank cells are figures we hold no verified source for, and currencies are not interchangeable, so compare within one market rather than across them.
Returns run 21 days from delivery, with a Return Authorization number from support. Warranty comes in three tiers: 3 years on the PowerBox, 6 months or a maximum of 100 wash cycles on the functional components, 30 days on the textile. Those 100 washes are a warranty limit, not a durability rating. Batteries cannot ship to the UK, Arabian countries, Africa, Asia or Russia. Current pricing by market is here.
Who should skip this
Standard whole body EMS contraindications apply. Do not train with a pacemaker or any implanted electronic device, during pregnancy, with epilepsy, with a serious heart condition, with active cancer, with a fever, or over open wounds and acute injuries in the electrode areas. Adults 18 and over only.
Excessive intensity carries a documented risk of rhabdomyolysis, which is why the protocol looks the way it does: every group starts at zero, sessions stay at 20 minutes, and 48 hours sit between them. Those limits are engineering, not fine print, and respecting them keeps a glute block productive. This is general information rather than medical advice, so talk to your doctor if any of the above applies to you. Ready to start? Take a look at the Visionbody system.

Frequently asked questions
Can EMS actually build glutes?
It can contribute. Kemmler and von Stengel, the main whole body EMS researchers, find the evidence strongest in beginners and returners, and their studies typically use 20 minute sessions once or twice a week. EMS is a supplement to training rather than a replacement for progressive resistance work.
How high should I set the glute channel?
Every muscle group starts at level 0 and is raised individually. Bring the glutes up until the contraction is unmistakable but you can still move slowly through a full bridge and breathe normally. One of Visionbody's own app screens shows glutes at 45 percent alongside biceps at 21 percent, so expect a gap.
How many EMS glute sessions can I do per week?
Two to three, at least 48 hours apart. The Personal System is capped at 120 minutes of EMS training per week. Sessions are 20 minutes as the headline figure, and the Visionbody FAQ gives 20 to 25 minutes.
Which exercises work best for glutes in the suit?
Glute bridges, bodyweight squats, reverse or split lunges, and static holds such as a bridge hold, wall sit or forearm plank. Bridges are the cleanest glute position, because the quads cannot take over the way they do in a squat.
Does the Visionbody require a subscription?
No. There is no subscription and no membership, and nothing recurs after you buy. The My Visionbody App comes with the system, runs on iOS and Android, and carries 8 advanced programs and 64 subprograms. Katalyst, for contrast, is $2,999 plus a mandatory $35 to $49 per month subscription, and it is iOS only.
What does the Visionbody cost, and does ROUTINES50 work?
In the US: $1,890 single (list $2,490), $2,390 duo, $3,490 double. In Europe: EUR 1.790 single, EUR 2.290 EU duo or EUR 2.390 DACH duo, EUR 3.490 double. ROUTINES50 takes $50 off. If it is rejected, an automatic seasonal promo is probably already on the cart.
How do I wash the suit after a glute session?
Wash after every 2 to 3 sessions: cold, gentle cycle, 800 rpm spin, in the supplied laundry bag with all Velcro fastened, mild bleach-free detergent. Do not turn it inside out to wash, that is an air-drying step only. Dry flat, away from sunlight and heat, and never wash the control box with the suit.
